It’s a real challenge playing at 3AM on the Rookie A Go-Go Stage. You gotta be nuts to do it or simply don’t give a darn toss and just rip into some straight up garage rock. THat’s Gateballers in a nutshell. That’s what I love about this band. Or any other band that plies this genre. There’s been a good few that have come before them such as early Soul Asylum, Goo Goo Dolls, and most of the early 90’s rock that came out of the great midwestern states such as Minnesota.
Hamano Kaya leads this trio on guitars and vocals, and most of the time he has his head down and is straight ripping. On bass its Motomura Takuma, and on drums Kudomi Nara. The band have been one of the few bright spots on a stage that has been largely overlooked due to many who are simply looking to get back to their hotel or are dancing in the nearby Milk Bar or skanking to reggae riddims at the Crystal Palace.
