Cuban jazz maestro Robert Carcasses was also here with the larger ensemble, Interactivo, which in three other Fuji Rock performances, filled the stage with musicians as a big Cuban dance band. By contrast, this trio is a more delicate project, with Carcasses on keyboards and vocals, supported by acoustic bass and a drummer. The music has similar roots to the Afro-Cuban songs of Interactivo, but here in the smaller setting of the Cafe de Paris, it was a much more intimate delivery of Latin soul. It was inevitable that feet would be moving, but you could also sip a mojito and get lost in the music and songs, which are truly straight out of Cuban cafes and street festivals. If you are thinking Buena Vista Social Club, that’s pretty close to the right idea.
