Slackline is a kind of tight rope, but since the line has some give and is relatively wide (about 4cm or 5cm), it has developed into a kind of extreme sport. People can bounce in various positions, and if they are really good they can do flips. These guys were really good. They could do flips. Their shows are periodically in the daytime, near the Cafe de Paris. There is also a line where you can try for yourself and see just how hard this is.

Mop of Head Sighting

The Tokyo electronica 4-piece Mop of Head is not playing Fuji Rock this year, but after “mopping up” the Red Marquee Sunday night last year, they just couldn’t stay away. Here is bass player Hitomi, guitarist Takuma and manager Ryo hanging out (in staff jackets!) near the Ganban stage in the Oasis. Last year, their set was blazing! (See an English review of that show and a photo report.) Mop of Head’s sound man, Takeshi, also works with Quattro, the first band to play the Red Marquee this year, and was seen in the early morning wandering around near the Prince Hotel. Sorry, no photos available of that.

The moral: Never underestimate a Fuji Rocker. Where there’s a will, there’s a way to do something slightly ridiculous.

Miniscule of Sound: Party in an Elevator

Japan is known for small night clubs, but Miniscule takes it to a whole new level. It is pretty much impossible to be farther away from anyone in the club than I was when I shot this photo, but there is still a full lineup of DJs going all the way past daylight. Look for it near the Crystal Palace Tent. But beware, there is a line, and it is carefully managed by the door staff. The entrance stamp reads “Rejected”.
