Everyone knows the best place to enjoy full-on authentic Cuban music is on a moss-covered, fairy tale wooden stage deep within a Japanese forest. No, really!
Jamming up the boardwalk from 200 meters back, with punters craning their necks to see and cupping hands to ears to hear, Interactivo brought their native Cuban sound to the Mokudo-tei stage on Saturday afternoon with every available log and tree stump occupied by an interested onlooker.
Though Interactivo will play a total of 3 times throughout the fest, including sets on late Saturday at Naeba Shokudo (11:50pm-) and their main set on White Stage, Sunday afternoon (2:50pm-), they are likely most at home in the small forest clearing surrounded by mist and the drip-drop of rain from the trees.
The difference here was that from their normal 10+ member group, they were pared down to a trio and presented a more stripped-down sound than for what they were previously known by Fujirock fans.
A more sparse vibe, filled by just bass, drums and keyboard let enough Cuban influence shine through, but perhaps left room for atmospheric expansion in their later Fujirock sets, and gave fans a chance to look forward to a completely different experience later in the fest.
If Cuban rhythms tickle your fancy, be sure to catch them again tonight at 11:50pm, or again tomorrow at 2:50pm!
