Japanese Indie band ‘Tamtam’ took to the Gypsy Avalon stage yesterday for an irresistible blend of rock, pop and even some hints of rnb. With an extended lineup beyond just the original 4 piece band, the sound had a fullness and depth that really sunk deep into the bones of the audience (me included).

On drums Affee Takahashi, was really ‘in the pocket’ with locked grooves that kept the band flying along. With styles ranging from Jazz and Pop to Rnb and Funk, the snappy drums subtly laid the framework where the magic could take place.

Keyboard player, Tomomin, added some color with his solid and emotive playing. Whether in brief solos or within the context of the group, he was able to add just that extra bit of musical touch.
Although unassuming behind the group, his skill and sensitivity were dully noted for their strong addition to the bands overall sound.

Guitar player, Yuthke was also joined by a lead guitarist for the performance adding an extra dimension to the section. The two together laid down licks of soaring psychedelia and overdriven grit.

Lastly, the front woman of the group ‘Kuro’ tied together the whole ensemble with her undeniable personality and charm. A multitalented ‘tour-de-force’ she pulled in the audience while playing the trumpet or belting out the bands bilingual infectious hooks.

With her authentic delivery and refreshing stage presence she really epitomizes what is so special about this group. A collection of talented musicians, each in their own right, not afraid to really just be themselves. With a sound that is uniquely their own, keep your eyes peeled for this Japanese indie group overflowing with style.
