SEAPOOL blows away the crowd with their big noise

The set started with such a loud BOOM on the drums that people on the bench nearly jumped out of their skin. Maybe it was that sound, or whatever the reason was, the audience members all stood up as the fist song began. Compared to the other shows seen so far at the Rookie A Go Go stage, this immediate action was new.

There were more than 100 people in attendance at SEAPOOL’s set an experimental grunge punk band. The three piece band consists of lead vocals and guitarist, Ohara Suzuka, chorus and bassist, Iitani Maho, and drummer Shirai Kei. The two women could fool anyone with their tiny stature that makes their instruments look to be of same size as them. But the sound that comes out of their band is out of this world. To sum it up in one word: LOUD. Mostly controlled, sometimes out of control (in a good way), loud.

Even while sitting five rows from the font, I could feel the strong wind of the noise booming from the speakers. Their powerful sounds, vocals, and chords kept the crowd going for their whole set.

Not only was their music badass, but their fashion was on-point, too. Ohara downed pastel purple/pink hair with a leopard print top while strumming her baby blue guitar. Iitani, on the other hand, wore a bright blue jersey dress and danced all over the place while holding her bass upside down at times.

All three members looked nervous at times, perhaps this being their first time playing at Fuji Rock, but as soon as they hit the last chord and the set ended, their smiles were as big as their sound and their personalities.

This band is one to look out for, don’t let their looks fool you. They’re here to stay and keep going with a BOOM.
