The Osaka-based rock band releases their second album and single just in time for their FRF debut
TAMIW made a strong debut at Fuji Rock’s Rookie A Go Go stage on the first day of Fuji Rock 2021 lead by the sultry vocals of lead singer, tami, the sole female member of the band. The Osaka-based rock band takes its listeners on a journey mixed with soulful and R&B sounds that at times, resemble that of Miss Lauryn Hill in the Fugees. Perhaps a high-stake comparison to make, but these Fuji Rock rookies truly nailed the sensual vibes that you’d want to listen to at night with your loved one.
The 6-song set rocked the new location of the Rookie A Go Go stage midday, where the large crowd enjoyed swaying back and forth at times, and head-banging the other. All their songs were sung in English, easy for any language speaker to understand and follow, making for some tunes that stay on your mind for the foreseeable future.
The set started out strong with “future exercise” where tami’s sexy vocals was paired with synthesizer tunes played by Taguchi. For a rock band, they have all grounds covered; from dark energetic dance vibes to smooth electronic tunes, even transitioning to 90s nostalgic sounds.
Guitarist Kawabe joins with funky slaps on his guitar as he occasionally sang the chorus with tami to get the crowd going, such as in “Happy Ending”. Drummer BON-SAN had his moments of glory too, and the crowd could tell the energetic synergy between all four members of the band.
The band debuted their new single, “PurePsychoGirl” half-way through their set, which is a song they just released earlier this month on their sophomore album.
The unfortunately short 30-minute set ended on “Protest You”, a lullaby-esque song that could put anyone in a trance. Let’s hope that they come back to Fuji Rock again and grace us with a full set next time.
