Big in the youth culture scene, CreativeDrugStore has been making movements around Tokyo for a decade now.

Consisting of seven members, BIM, doooo, VaVa, in-d, JUBEE, heiyuu and PalBedStock, the group is collective of rappers, producers, videographers and designers who push the boundaries in the creative industry. Overall, they are known mostly for their clothing drops and original music. Their clothes sell out pretty damn fast and often resell for a pretty decent resell price on Mercari. So it’s safe to say, whatever they’re doing is definitely working.

While they operate as a collective, each member also works on their own projects, may it be music, fashion, artwork, etc. At Fuji Rock, they performed both a variety of different songs in which different members of the collective take the lead mic. That was pretty unique and special to see in a set.

Compared to all of the other shows I have seen at Fuji Rock thus far (bear in mind, I’m just beginning Day 3), CreativeDrugStore displayed the most energy from any performance at the festival. They were dancing like crazy on the stage, engaging directly with their audience and genuinely just having the best time. They used autotune in their mics from time to time so when they would yell things like ‘WADDUP FUJI ROCK’, it would have that Travis Scott-eque sound to it, which made the crowd super hyped up.

In the middle of their set, one of the members brought out a small blow up globe with ‘Creative Drug Store’ on it. It was about the size of a beach ball, or maybe two basketballs combined. One of the members took the mic and said something along the lines of ‘I had this idea to bring this globe and throw it in the crowd, but then I watched Vampire Weekend last night and saw that the had the same globe, just 100x bigger and like, 100 more of them’. The crowd laughed and cheered, and continued to vibe out to the next song.

CreativeDrugStore’s performance at Fuji has definitely put them on the map for me personally, and I’m going to keep tabs on their progress from now on. They’re making waves, and creating a community in the process.
