Dawes' First Time on the Fuji Stage

Formed in North Hills, an LA suburb, Dawes is a band comprised of two brothers Taylor Goldsmith as lead vocals and guitar, brother Griffin Goldsmith on drums, Blake Mills on guitar, Wylie Gelber on bass and Lee Pardini on vocals and keyboard.

Having previously toured with legends such as Bob Dylan and John Mayer, Dawes is no stranger to the big stage. Their overall sound is very influenced by 60’s, 70’s guitar-based rock. I could hear nodes to the sounds of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell throughout their set. Through their vintage sound and aesthetic, Dawes has ramped up a loyal following from around the world.

Dawes joined the Fuji Rock stage at Field of Heaven. Despite coming on a tad bit late, Dawes got the crowd going with their smooth guitar licks and enthusiasm from each member of the band. Their excitement to be in Japan, at a stage like Fuji Rock was palpable, and their energy was infectious throughout the grounds.

The member that stood out to me the most was lead vocalist Taylor Goldsmith, who is a storyteller in his own right, while at the same time being one heck of a guitarist. Juggling both singing and strumming, Taylor brought his highly energetic stage presence and charisma to the show.

Definitely the kind of band you have to hear in person to really get the full experience.
