DJ Marcus Aurelius brought the funk, instrumental jams, and hip-hop to the Blue Galaxy on Saturday afternoon, departing wildly from the standard fare of ska, reggae, cumbia, and mestizo that typically graces these two decks. 

And with a little bit of rain pushing people for cover, this Taiwan-based DJ was able to draw a sizable crowd for popular music forms that are generally underrepresented at Fuji Rock. 

“I will tell you what I played: I did an instrumental of “Intergalactic,” I played Nu Shoot “I Can’t Wait,” PM Dawn “Set Adrift,” and DMX “Pony Up.” I play music that people want to hear, and a lot of people were into it.”

Aurelius said the crowd was a mix of young and old and fans of many different music varieties. He hopes Fuji Rock will continue to do more to promote emerging music forms that are popular with young people.
