LOS GUANCHES

Cuban act Los Guanches had little trouble winning over a crowded Gypsy Avalon during their first of four performances at Fuji Rock 2013.  Dressed all in white, the septet featured two acoustic guitarists, a keyboardist, a double bassist, a saxophonist, and two percussionists.  With the sun shining down, the band’s uplifting, fun sounds were a perfect fit for Avalon and had literally everyone dancing.  One spectator had to leave before Los Guanches were finished their set.  He danced his way across the Avalon hill, blew a kiss to the stage, and then went on his way.

A male and female dancer came out during the group’s final number.  The two were dressed in outfits that resembled the Cuban flag, and had no shortage of awesome moves.  The couple flaunted their fancy footwork all across the front of the stage while the audience cheered them on.

Proving that it was impossible not to be swept up by great music and positive vibes, even the Avalon MCs could be seen dancing on the side of stage.  The male MC was soon coaxed out to groove along with Los Guanches’s two dancers as the song wrapped up.  As the band walked off stage, one member called out “gracias” to the crowd.  The Avalon MC quickly encouraged the audience to shout “gracias” right back, which everyone happily did.
