Masaya's travels have led to his unique knowledge of spirits
Masaya first came to Fuji Rock in 2001, and after a five-year hiatus, has been at the remainder of the festivals offering t-shirts, original drawings and photos. He is a modern day shaman, someone who wants to tell you a story to get you to think deeply about existence and the meaning of life.
To express his views, he recruited the artist Hide to create an image or spiritual map which is available either through a black and white print or on a t-shirt. In the corner is a wolf giving life through his breath to a universe that swirls in a clockwise motion, and the Buddha with 1,000 hands in the center and eight dragons and other math formulas and symbols.
Masaya believes there is a purpose to live and he wants to educate people during the festival. He said the dragon is just a symbol and not an actual animal, and he also believes that each culture has their own story and chooses their own symbols.
In past year’s he has chosen a theme for his drawings and his talks, which have ranged from war and the warrior, to mind revolutions, and psychedelic awareness. This year is origin of the universe which flows through a woman and has thousands of levels, layers, and folds.
It’s worth talking to Masaya if you have a few minutes between bands. He also has constructed a number of canopies to help the audience get out of the rain. Take some time to expand your mind this year. Masaya has traveled the world and brought some terrific stories back to us.
