7/26 SATORANGE COURT

NARASIRATO

They sure are dressed for the hot weather. The Narasirato fellas are naked but for some simple loincloths, and this afternoon we’re all jealous.

And the music couldn’t be better suited to this stage and this time. It’s about the most feelgood music any of us will hear this weekend. The Solomon Islands pan pipers have been here before, they’ve played this very stage before, and they fit perfectly.

We’re about 15 minutes in, when the singer announces they’ve got “one more song” for us. Either it’s a bloody long song, or this set is going to be a lot shorter than advertised. When it’s done, he tells us he’s got “one more song”. This goes on for the next 10 or so songs.

The music has some driving syncopated beats, with elements of pop, funk and reggae on top. And they’ve got a song in Japanese, all about Naeba and Mount Fuji. The singer is belting out lines like “kimi wo wasurenai yo” (I’ll never forget you”).

They’ll be playing again tonight on the minuscule Naeba Shokudo stage. God knows how they’ll fit. Don’t miss it.
