The Vinyl Word
When I caught up with Jim West he was on his 11th consecutive hour of Dj’ing. He did it effortlessly and with panache, switching between turntables, albums of different size and shape, and those from different eras.
“This album is 40 cm, it won’t fit on most turntables.”
West has amassed a collection which he describes as 97 meters of vinyl at his home in New Zealand. He is a fixture at the World Court, playing for diners and partition people alike.
Don’t be afraid to ask him questions if you like the music. He generally avoids the hits and would rather turn people on to something they have never heard before.
