Keropon’s for Kids
Super fun songs and games for the whole family
Imagine this: two women in their 40s, dressed as crabs. They dance around, singing a song where the lyrics almost exclusively consist of “Ebi (shrimp) Kani (crab) kusu (suffix for…who knows. electronics? aerobics?)”. Now while I’m sure we can understand how this is popular with young children (it really is!), allow me to share something with you. The Youtube video for that song?
….almost 9,500,000 views.
Let’s just sit and look at that number for a bit.
…just a little longer.
Now, check the video out here.
Now, back to the show. The Keropon’s duo Yuko Masuda (Kero) and Akiko Hirata (Pon) are extremely talented at what they do. They danced and took ideas that came from the kids and made their songs and games fun, lively and original. The kids had a lot of fun… and so did the parents. And the non parents. Actually, apart from the group of kids up at the front dancing away, I saw mostly adults doing the moves and singing along. One drunk dad in front of me was so into it that he’d embarrassed his daughter enough for her to refuse to join in. In fairness, he was grooving pretty well. She probably knew she couldn’t beat that.
While the main target age seems to be kids 6 and under, judging by the audience, Keropon’s is for literally all ages. Definitely one to check out if you a) have kids and/or b) love games like Simon Says.
