never young beach
never too young/old to be dorky
never young beach do exactly what they say on the tin – psychedelic surf rock – but playing to a crowd in hiking boots and wooly socks in a tent under an arbour of trees is not quite the board-shorts and sea-breeze mood the band were going for, I suspect. Not that it really mattered, as the spill-out from the nearby Of Mosters and Men show were still in bopping mode and were going to have a good time regardless of how dorky they looked, and there was plenty of bubble-blowing going on to affirm this.
never young beach have a upbeat brand of psychedelic rock with sunny chord progressions and heavy guitar mid-sections, all run through with a steady bass-line that kept them perky. Their more poppy numbers got the crowd grooving like your mum and dad at a wedding disco, but there was not much more here to enamour with, and their 30 minute set a little too brief to really tell if they had much more to offer.
