LIVE REPORT

Alex Crossan, aka Mura Masa, is a master of the flip-flop; He deftly turns a smooth, sweet slab of R&B on it’s head, revealing a warped and stuttering trap underbelly. Seemingly flicking an imaginary switch back and forth between lightness and dark, innocent pop melodies would quickly be pushed into shadowy territory, hidden within murky squelching bass until Crossan allowed them to return to the light.

He was joined on stage by special guest vocalist Bonzai, whose smoky R&B vocals and animated presence brought plenty of added energy to many of the tracks. A highlight if there ever was one, tropical steel-drum tinged “Lovesick Fuck” lurched between soaring falsetto ‘NEED YOU/WANT YOU’s and woodwind stabs, until Crossan lets them slide into a trap break that even the most tired festival-going legs can’t help but dance to.
