Piano man offers up pleasant noon set

Tom Odell made for a pleasant enough noon performer Saturday on the green stage. The English singer/songwriter spent most of the set playing a piano, tilting his head towards a nearby microphone while playing delicate melodies and singing about love. The just-under-an-hour performance ranged from skeletal balladry to more full-forced rockers, Odell aided by his backing band on especially energetic cuts such as “Magnetized,” which found him nearing an exhausted bark. But those moments of release came infrequently, the bulk of the set being Odell playing mid-tempo tunes on his piano with a little extra energy provided by those around him. Sometimes, Odell would stand up and walk around, stopping in front of the drummer as if to check in on him. It was that sort of set — pleasant, where the sudden movement of the main singer to simply over near a drum kit was a sudden turn.
