LIVE REPORT
Polloca, which prefers to spell with its name in all lower-case letters, is a very young Japanese dream-pop trio — there are only three band members listed on their website, though four were playing here. It looks like they added a drummer. Singer and bass player Hirotani Mitsunori delivers Valium vocals through numerous echo-ey effects. Within the purview of indiedom, this is about as syrupy and sentimental as you can get. One could imagine some of their breathy ballads as a soundtrack to TV melodramas about high school romance. At other times the synth beats feel like moody triphop, and that was good enough to keep me standing there for a while, though this kind of music is really not my thing.
