NakamuraEmi
Making a lot from a little
Sometimes a simple set up is all you need to make something powerful. NakamuraEmi’s Friday night set at the Gypsy Avalon featured very little in terms of set up, which was quite the change from most stages Friday — while Flight Facilities were constructing what might have been a legit flight facility on the White Stage, NakamuraEmi had a microphone, handheld percussion, a mixer and an acoustic guitar player. All they needed was two small tables and a folding chair. Yet from this sparse set of ingredients, NakamuraEmi delivered a passionate set, one that found her jumping from high-note hitting singing to a rapping delivery within the space of the same verse. All the while, she dashed around the small stage, adding extra urgency to her performance.
