The Lemon Twigs are an example of being a throwback without being a pastiche. They have a British Invasion style and sound, but inside that lies their original, unique voice. Their Saturday afternoon set transported all in attendance to a simpler, happier time. Simple beats, simple guitars, catchy melodies, harmonization that would make Brian Wilson jealous. Apparently this old-fashioned recipe still yields solid results!.

Their sound was squeaky clean and polished, and the moments where distorted lead guitar broke through (for example on I’ve Got a Broken Heart or The One ) were some of the standout
bits of the set. And what guitar it was! Not only are Brian and Michael D’Addario talented singers and songwriters, they also know how to shred.

All in all, it was one of those shows that kept you grinning from beginning to end. Their songs were sweet, instantly infectious and went down easy. Kind of like wrapping yourself up in a familiar blanket. I think this rock and roll thing is going to catch on big one of these days.

Their mid-set song ‘I Just Can’t Get Over Losing You’ encapsulates the band perfectly. An immensely catchy song that you feel like you’ve heard before even if you haven’t, that you find yourself singing along with the chorus halfway through even if it is your first time because the song is so catchy. Innocent earworms all of them!

It was a perfect little trifle, a mid-afternoon pick-me-up snack of a set. It perked all in attendance up (which was a huge number, Red Marquee was basically packed to overflowing!) and gave us all renewed vigor for the remainder of the last day of this year’s Fuji Rock.
