SUPER FURRY ANIMALS

Space ranger masks, sword fights with guitars and, well, super furry animal costumes. These were some of the oddball elements Welsh rock group Super Furry Animals incorporated into their live act on Saturday during their appearance on the white stage. Taking to the stage in white jumpsuits, the band is known to throw touches of weirdness into their sets and this was no exception. They held up “applause” and other signs written in Japanese, used crunchy snacks as musical instruments and tested other comical antics to keep the crowd smiling along with them as they rolled out fan favorites like “Hello Sunshine” and “(Drawing) Rings Around the World” in the early evening light. The mood was decidedly chilled out as the sky slowly began to get darker and most of the songs stuck to a calm rock shuffle, backed by electronic sampling with occasional moments of more intense psychadelic rhythms and vocal distortion.
