Rock 'n' Roll, straight from Chile

The two Chilean brothers, Alejandro and Alvaro, waste no time with their set, starting straight after the last note from the DJ. The drums barrel along to the guitars quiet riffing before the guitar breaks off into a rock and roll solo. It almost sounds like a road trip as the opening passage is revisited time and time again, with occasional sightings of other melodies. It’s the drums that fire up for the next songs, as the band embark upon a nostalgic burst of 60’s rock with a hopping rhythm. The crowd is bopping and twisting right along with them, enjoying themselves immensely despite more than 90% of the audience not being alive during that period.

The band add more instruments to the mix, Alejandro busting out a harmonica for a slower piece and Alvaro using a washing board or grater-board item for rhythm, the tearing sound offsetting the burning vocals. Alvaro also has a passage playing with his bare hands, adding a flatter sound to the percussion. The band explodes into life for the last, the crowd jiving away happily into the night. It’s a wonderful display of classic rock and roll, a throwback to the golden age of the genre and one that was loved by the crowd.
