Keropons
A great draw for many of the parents bringing children to Fuji Rock, rainbow shrimp costume clad duo Keropons played the Gypsy Avalon on Sunday afternoon. Made famous by a kids show on Japanese TV network NHK, you might compare them to well known children’s groups like The Wiggles. They sing songs about shrimps (duh, they’re dressed like them), squids and other sea life, most of which have choreographed dances that go along with the lyrics for children to mimic and sing along to.
Adults and children alike were really into it, perhaps the adults even more so than the kids, doing the dances in perfect motion to the music like they had practiced them everyday. This makes sense for people with kids who watch the show regularly, but it was the adults who came without kids who were getting into it the most. They jumped, sang, and moved their arms about in perfect sync with the two, er, shrimps. Later came a song about skiing. We are, in fact at a ski resort, so why not do a song about it? They moved on to tackle such subjects as eating your vegetables (a surf rock song about asparagus), and bulging biceps (bery-bery macho).
The performance was cute and perfectly suited to the colorful Gypsy Avalon stage, adorned in bright sunflowers and rainbow colors that matched the costumes. Kids and adults both seemed happy and cheerful dancing along the grassy slope in the afternoon sun.
