10-FEET
Moshing in the Rain
Japanese pop-punk band 10-Feet haven’t put out an album in a while, but they did release a new single early this year and that, along with Fuji Rock 2017’s increase in the proportion of Japanese bands in the program, is a plenty good reason to bring them back to the festival. This year is also 10-Feet’s 20th anniversary, so there is something to celebrate. The music is the same power-pop-punk it’s always been, and everybody (i.e. the Japanese crowd) can’t get enough of it. One interesting barometer of this is the owner of the minshuku where I’m staying. I’ve known him since 1999, and he only rarely ventures into the festival grounds. It usually takes the Red Hot Chili Peppers to get him through the gates, but there he was and with his wife for 10-Feet, jumping up and down and singing along. The set was non-stop fun from beginning to end, and in the tradition of White Stage daytime punk shows, there was a very smiley circle pit going strong. The emotive pop melodies are not really my personal taste, but I couldn’t deny the fun that everybody else was having.
