THE LEMON TWIGS
A family that rocks together
The Red Marquee was packed to capacity for what might have been the most anticipated sets of the night. Nary an extra body could be packed into this hot box of rock. Expectations were high for this brother duo from Long Island, New York who drew media acclaim as teens with the debut Do Hollywood last year. The band made their Fuji Rock debut this year, and it’s already their second live show in Japan. Besides the D’adario brothers, a keyboardist and backing guitarist also appeared with them.
The set began with “I Wanna Prove To You” which showcased their prowess on many instruments with songs that would stand out in the 60s or 70s, which was rock’s golden era. While the band are still young and finding their way they already have a minor catalog to call upon such as numbers they performed such as “Frank” and “How Lucky Am I”.
The brothers are not afraid to perform a number of cover songs either, such as John Prine’s “Fish and Whistle” and Rocky Ericsson “I Walked With A Zombie”.This shows that they are giving a nod to their musical forbears. A few other songs rounded out what was an otherwise excellent set such as “Queen Of My School” as the Lemon Twigs have all of the musicianship and the suave moves to stay on the rock and roll circuit for many more years to come.
