Armed with some 5 guitars, a few pedals and a 4:20pm start time in the forest entangled Mokudo Tei stage, we were ready to jam with seasoned guitarist Kenji.

The late afternoon Kenji Jammer set consisted of layers of guitar rhythms on top of each other and live fills in the empty space. He used pedals and loopers to create a massive soundscape of guitars; something that if you didn’t witness you would assume is being created by multiple people.

Kenji Jammer doesn’t play songs per-say, but rather, folky, bluesy, psychedelic musical ideas that he slowly progresses and builds through 10 minutes or so. In doing this he goes through a variety of guitars and sounds in the process. These different styles of guitars layered on top of each other make his one man band really stand out.

The sound isn’t always perfect, there are often rough patches or lulls, slow patches while Kenji is switching instruments but if you come in with the expectation of a one man guitar jam session, you’re going to receive that and much more.

He finished off by upping the tempo a bit and bringing in something that resembled a sitar, which created sounds I’ve seldom heard, mixed in with his previous layers of guitar riffs. It’s clear our man Kenji can really jam, he eats, sleeps and breaths the stringed axes. If you play yourself or love guitar music, you won’t be disappointed whenever this Jammer comes to play.
