Surfing the ambient, psychedelic groove

Hula Hula Circus is a delightful trio led by guitarist Kenji Suzuki (aka Jammer) who is a well known session guitar player with credits such as Simply Red led by Mick Hucknall. Kenji lived in the UK for a time, around 1988, and recorded with such major artists such as Annie Lennox and Seal.

Today, however, he is fronting the trio Hula Hula Circus, rocking out some cool surf rock jams ala Jack Johnson. The audience at the Cafe De Paris is rapt with attention as the band is absolutely mesmerizing live with many in the audience in in total rapture.

The trio is also comprised of fellow guitarist 石井マサユキ who plays in other local acts (TICA、GABBY & LOPEZ、ex The Chang) and keyboardist クニ杉本 (ex,NATURAL CALAMITY). The keyboard sound really rounds out the band’s overall vibe which veers from mellow ambient jams to wildly psychedelic. Last year the band performed on the Gypsy Avalon stage and whenever you can see the, I think it’s definitely worth checking them out as you won’t walk away disappointed.
