The three words everyone wants to hear at a music festival
“Freshly Baked Bread.” I don’t pretend to be a complicated person, but this really is all I need to see from a stall to grab my full attention. One of the new entrants to the Fuji Rock food scene in 2018 comes courtesy of bakers Gibier, who opened a space right near the Red Marquee offering…well, freshly baked bread. They sell a variety of breakfast-ready foodstuffs, ranging from chocolate danishes to vegan burgers. The main event is a hulking BLT sandwich, but when I visit the spot in the early evening on Friday, I really just want a snack. Thankfully, they sell a butter-stuffed pretzel for only ¥200 (about $2), just right for my current state of hunger. Joined with a cup of ice coffee, it’s as decadent a snack you’ll find at the festival — when you bite into this and have that rush of gooey butter enter your mouth, you’ll wonder if you’ve ended up at a county fair in Texas rather than a music event in rural Japan.
