And they don't stop
The Colombian street party continued early Saturday at the Field of Heaven. Columbian afro-latin Chirimia group Rancho Aparte were back at it for their 4th set of Fuji Rock, with one more to go later that night.
When a band is booked 5 times at a festival you better be sure they can rock a crowd. With Rancho Aparte party and revelry, getting people shaking around, comes second nature to these guys. The band is led by singer/MC Dino Manuelle and consists of a group of other young men playing percussion, horns, clarinets, a tuba, symbols tambourines and more. The whole thing has an infection, happy vibe that begs anyone in proximity to get up and move.
The Saturday afternoon crowd at the Field of Heaven stage wasn’t the rowdiest crowd Rancho would have encountered at the fest, people seemed to be easing into their Saturday and nodding along with the boys rather than going wild. That said, the crowd all seemed more than appreciative of the musical skill and long tradition the Chirimia group had come to deliver from the streets of Columbia to the mountains of Japan.
If you attended Fuji Rock this year Rancho Aparte was a band that was hard to miss, I think playing 5 times over 2 days may be some kind of Fuji Rock record. I caught snippets of their other sets throughout the weekend and although this set, in the more spacious open air of the Field of Heaven wasn’t as lively at some of their other sets, it was just as entertaining and plenty of fun for band and crowd alike. If you spot Rancho Aparte listed on a bill in the future, don’t hesitate to check them out, they’re an incredibly talented group and consistently bring the party vibes.
