This was actually a kind of intriguing gig, with better-than-expected renditions of classic rock tunes played some of Japan’s best studio musicians. They obviously had their fans who knew who they were and wanted to see them, but randoms from the nearby Food Court would also get drawn in by songs they knew, then stick around because the guys were really rocking it. The group was formed specially for this year’s Fuji Rock, so in some sense it may be just a lark. The band members came from Fuji Rock’s house tribute band, Route 17 Rock ‘n Roll Orchestra, and studio all-stars who work with AKB48 and the anime Evangelion. Who knows if they will ever perform together again, but it sure was fun while it lasted.
