Playing to a Naeba Shokudo crowd amdist strong wind and rain, hip-hop hooligans Jabba the Football Club asked fans honestly, “What are you guys doing here?!”

It was no doubt the group’s uptempo jaunty rap that kept crowds going throughout the typhoon.

Not to let big-name overseas rap acts hog all the spotlight in a more hip-hop heavy lineup at Fuji Rock than ever, Jabba the Football Club held their heads high amidst crazy weather to show Japanese hip-hop has a place in Naeba.

Combining their penchants for lighthearted hip-hop, football, and Star Wars (the name is a play on villian Jabba the Hutt), Jabba Da Football Club’s party rap draws comparisons to predecessors like Rip Slyme and Kick the Can Crew.

Formed in 2014, the group has been steadily gaining traction on the Japanese hip-hop scene, performing for the first time at Fuji Rock this year, and supporting their latest album, ‘FUCKING GOOD MILKSHAKE’.

Members ROVIN, BAOBAB MC, ASHTRAY, and NOLOV don football referee uniforms and tag-team one-another flowing over feel-good beats.

Though the lyrics aren’t necessarily football related, their attitude is all in good fun and they showed that their skills on the mic can weather even the strongest storm.
