Japanese calligraphy is hard. Like, really hard. It takes time, dedication, some innate skill and more than a little bit of passion. If it is something you truly want to master, you need to find the right teacher. If things like Houdini style all-tied-up-and-timed escape challenges (with calligraphy), maintaining spinning plates on the back of your brush while writing, using your body as a brush as strangers hold you aloft, or using a hydraulic inkan launcher to sign your work sounds like something that would make the experience more enjoyable to you, perhaps Mr. Bun Bun is just the teacher you’ve been looking for!
Hailing from southern Kyushi, this is his first year as part of Fuji Rock’s busking team. His calligraphy set feels a bit like a thorough culture lesson from an overenthusiastic Japanese Inspector Clouseau, but he has assured us that he has more acts to be seen. Keep an eye out for him around the fest, especially if he follows up on his promise to perform his ‘Anzen Taro’ set.
Also don’t forget to tip your buskers. They work hard for you, show them you care.
