Friday Starts Hot!
Triple Fire have been hardworking little indie gremlins for nearly two decades, but somehow they manage to still feel as fresh as a newly struck spark off rock and roll’s flint. Their Friday noontime Field of Heaven set really got the blood pumping and a few toes tapping, helped a bit by their set opener being a banger all about booze complete with a ‘Tequilla’ breakdown. They know how to get a festival audience on their side, give them an excuse to double down on the day drinking.
Vocalist Yasunao Yoshida’s off-kilter semi-spoken vocal delivery grounded the amazingly tight band as they flitted from rock to funk to surf to jazz and back again, sometimes all in one song. Yasunao’s lyrics similarly caromed between earnest and nonsense tone-poem in a salty/sweet dynamic with the music that made the set feel borderline profound. Or at least made it feel like the band was really trying to communicate something. Then again maybe that is part of the charisma you get from playing together for nearly 20 years.
Triple Fire can always be counted on to deliver an engaging set, and Friday’s was no exception.
Stay hot, boys.
