EGO-WRAPPIN' Wraps Up Saturday Night

Ego-Wrappin’ is just one of those perfect festival bands. They know what the job description is, and they deliver. This is not intended to sound flippant, being a great festival band is hard. But they always know the right amount of folksiness and bluesiness to put into a set to make it perfect outdoor listening music.

They closed the Field of Heaven stage on Saturday night with another classic set. I mean, who doesn’t want some banjo, muted trumpet and smoky vocals when the sun is long set and the drinks are flowing?

Singer Yoshie Nakano sure knows how to keep an audience in the palm of her hand. She runs the show like a brassy brothel proprietress in a western musical. Again, that is the kind of person I would want managing my festival after dark vibes.

Not to give her all the credit though, Masaki Mori’s rollicking songwriting makes the whole thing feel like a bawdy adults-only Disney attraction. Above all the songs are just fun.

It was their 10th Fuji Rock appearance, so no wonder they were able to act like they owned the place. That’s the confidence that makes an Ego-Wrappin’ set so much fun.
